'Sort Ascending - Sort by Size' - Program Help start.

Click any one of the Sort By options to sort the file list.

If a file list is displayed it will be sorted immediately.
If no file list has yet been read, the sort sequence will be used after the next refresh.

When the file list is sorted, the sort sequence can be seen by looking at the column headers. They will be marked * + - : . . . to show 1st sort column, 2nd sort column, 3rd sort column (etc.) respectively. See Also Show Sort Sequence.

When the file list is sorted by one of the Standard Sort Sequences, that menu item will be shown checked on the View menu.
When the file list is sorted by a non standard sort sequence, "Other Sort Sequence" will be shown checked on the View menu.
When the file list is not sorted, "No Sort" will be shown checked on the View menu.

See also options: Make File List B. Refresh behaviour for info on whether sort will be done after F5/refresh.

Standard Sort Sequences are:
Sort By Path * FilePath / + FileName
Sort By FileName * FileName
Sort By FileType * Type / + FileName
Sort By Size * Size

Sort By Date/Time* Date / + Time (Date Last Modified and Time Last Modified)
Sort By Path/FileType* FilePath / + Type
Sort By Path/Size* FilePath / + Size
Sort By Path/Date* FilePath / + Date / - Time (Last Modified)
Sort By FileType/Size * Type / + Size

On the Sort By menu, an item will also be added for each extra column selected.

Example: Sort By Path.
This will sort all entries in the file list in alphabetic order of FilePath column.
Within the part of the list with entries that have the same path, lines will be sorted in order of the filename column.
This sort is described in standard sort sequences above as * FilePath / + FileName.
The FilePath column header will show on the file list as *FilePath.
The FileName column will show on the file list as +FileName.

A non standard sort sequence can also be specified using the mouse to double click column headers or the Sort file list key [X].

Sort sequence can be changed and the file list re-sorted immediately:
To sort by a single column
To add a column to the current sort order and re-sort

Or a new sort order can be defined using the mouse or the Sort file list key [X].
To select columns for a new sort order but not sort
To select the last column of the new sort order AND sort

To sort by a single column, double click the header of that column.
ALTERNATIVE: Use left/right keys to select only cells in that column in GREEN and press X.

NB If you press X (or Ctrl+X or [Ctrl+]double click) on a column that is included in the current sort sequence, the sort sequence will not be changed. However, the Sort Ascending option will be switched and the order of the file list will be reversed.

To add a column to the current sort order and re-sort, keep the Ctrl key pressed and double click the header of that column.
ALTERNATIVE: Use left/right keys to select only cells in that column and press Ctrl+X.

To select columns for a new sort order but not sort, keep the Alt key pressed and double click the header of that column.
ALTERNATIVE: Use left/right keys to select only cells in that column and press Alt+X.

The New sort order defined so far will be shown in the List of Results on the status bar.
It can also be viewed using Show Sort Sequence.

To select the last column of the new sort order AND sort, keep the Alt and Ctrl keys pressed and double click the header of that column.
ALTERNATIVE: Use left/right keys to select only cells in that column and press Alt+Ctrl+X.

NB Alt+X will allow addition of the same column several times in the new sort order. When Alt+Ctrl+X is used to sort using the new sort order, each column will only be used once.
If a column appears for a second time in the sort order, it would in any case have no effect on the order in which lines in the file list are listed.

If all columns required are already included in the new sort order, select any column from the sort order and press Alt+Ctrl+X.
