See Options: Make File List which determine whether a renumber is done automatically after refresh and/or sort.
TIP:
If you have achieved a sequence in the list using Up/Down keys [U/W] which you want to return to after sorting the same list in some other order:
1. Use renumber to make the Sequence number correspond to the current order.
2. Ensure that option "Renumber after sort" is not checked (see Options : Make File List).
3. Use Sort key [X] to sort the list and check what is required.
4. Select the No. column with left/right keys (GREEN selection) and use the Sort key [X] to sort the list in the original order.
