Replace menu
In All Files in Current List
This option will search for values in each file listed in the file list section.
If no values are found in a file, that file will not be changed.
When values are found, all values in the file will be replaced with the entered replace value.
When several find values are entered (E.g. >>>(aaa) or(bbb) or(ccc)<<<), each value will be replaced with the corresponding replace value. (Multiple find-replace values available with Find N Replace PRO only. See Other Products - Support Future Development)
Before any changes are made, a backup copy of the file will be made in subdirectory repl\backup of the directory to which you installed K-free. Use About on the help menu to see this directory ("Parameters from directory")
Whilst the list is being processed, progress will be displayed in the Status Bar.
Note that progress is shown as % of files complete when each find and replace is quick. However the progress display will change for any file which takes a long time.
When showing progress of find or replace for a single file, the message in the status bar will show:
Replace File nn/mm followed by the Filename (see Status Bar - Show DropDown List Now)
To stop the replace operation at any point, press escape or click on the stop button. The file that is being processed will not be completed. If necessary, the backup copy of the last file will be restored.
All files which were already completed will not be restored. They can be restored using Show Log for Last Replace if required.
After the replace operation is complete a list of files changed, the number of changes made to each file and the location of the backup is shown. Uncheck the box "show this screen after" to skip display of the log after each replace operation. Use Show Log for Last Replace to Check the box again.
The log for the last replace operation is always available using Show Log for Last Replace from the replace menu. From that log screen options are also available to restore individual or all files or to copy filenames to the clipboard.
For each file, you can see a list of all backups made as well as each find-replace criteria and the byte count (file size) before and after each replace. Select the file and select Restore File Backup.
For More Info on Find Criteria see Find. Basic Criteria.
NB. Only Simple Find Criteria are available for replace operations with free version. A Pro version is available which allows complex criteria and multiple find-replace pairs. See Other Products - Support Future Development.

Find Files with Text to Replace (Specified Dirs)
Use this option to specify directories to search for files with value to replace.
The directories to search and other options are specified in the same way as for Find File With Text / By Date / Size.
The options to search in file names and to ignore warnings are not available for replace operations.
The value to find and values to replace are entered in the same way as for Replace - In All Files in Current List. For each file found, replace operation and backup processing is done in the same way. See Replace - In All Files in Current List
NB There are two limits on size of file to be processed.
1. The maximum bytes to search which is entered from the options part of this dialog
2. A maximum file size for all replace operations.
A file will be skipped if *either* limit is exceeded.
1. The maximum bytes to search which is entered from the options part of this dialog works in the same way as for Find File With Text / By Date / Size.
If the value is not found in the first nn bytes, the replace operation will not be done on that file. If the value is found in the first nn bytes then all values in the file will be replaced.
Files that are skipped due to this limit are not logged. They are treated the same way as any file in which find criteria is not fully satisfied.
I.e. Values *after* the first nn bytes will also be replaced.
NB files will be skipped anyway if the maximum file size for all replace operations is exceeded. Even if the bytes to search entered is higher.
2. A maximum file size for all replace operations.
This size is set to 5M when K-free is installed. For all Replace operations, files with a size greater than this value will be skipped and a message will be shown on the log for the replace that the file was skipped because it is too big.
Advanced Users ONLY: To change this limit, change entry "sz limit for repl" in section [Main] of Kyboma.ini. This file is in the parameters directory for K-free (see About on the help menu).

Restore File Backup
This option will show a list of backups made for a single file before a replace operation was done on that file.
The list of backups for the first file selected in the Current Section will be shown.
The Current Section is the part (directory tree, file list or text) which has a white background.
To change the section, press tab or click on the section required.
Items Selected depends on Current Section.
. When the current section is directory tree - the directory selected is actioned.
. When the current section is file list - the files and/or directories selected in blue and marked with * will be actioned.. If no files are selected in blue, the files selected in green will be actioned.
. When the current section is the text section - the file currently displayed will be actioned.
If the file size changed between any two backups or since the last backup a message will be displayed. NB It is possible to have changed the file contents without the size changing. The fact that the size has not changed does not mean the file has not changed.
To restore any backup, first select the required backup from the list and press restore.
Before the backup is restored, a confirmation screen will be displayed. The current version of the file which has been overwritten will be saved in the recycle directory.
