'Show Text / PopUp / Misc.' - Program Help start.

Options: Show Text

A. Show Text when start
B. Remove Blank Lines / Warnings
C. Alt+Up/Dn
D. Auto refresh text

A. Show Text when start

If this option is checked, the text that was last displayed in the text section of each K-free file list window will be shown when K-free is started.

Text that was displayed in a pop up window will never be re-displayed when K-free is started.

B. Remove Blank Lines / Warnings

Some files contain large sections of blank lines. K-free will remove these blank lines when the text is displayed if the option "Remove Blank Lines ..." is checked.

When scroll bars are used to reposition text, selected text will always be lost. A warning will be displayed unless the option "No warning that will lose selected ..." is checked.
This allows you to use the cursor to select text that is displayed after you have repositioned the file using the scroll bars.
Other applications do this differently due to the design of Windows. If you want to mainly use the keyboard rather than the mouse, K-free's method is much better.
To reposition text but keep the selection. Use mouse or keys Shift+PgDn, Shift+Ctrl+End, etc.

Because K-free does not read the entire file when displaying text, extra text must be read from disk when the fontsize is decreased or the split bar is moved down on the filelist window.
If a very large amount of text is required, this sometimes causes an overflow or Windows memory problem. After this has happened, the text section will not be filled with text although there is still more text on the file.
A warning will be displayed unless the option "No warning for overflow ..." is checked.

C. Alt+Up/Dn

When a file is displayed using the Show command, a message will be added to the List of Results on the status bar. A message will be added every time Alt+Up/Dn are used if the option "Add message to status when ..." is checked.

When the end or start of the list is reached, a message will be displayed with an option to loop back to the start or end respectively. This message will not be shown when option "No prompt when reach start/end ... " is set.
I.e. If this option is set, when you press Alt+Dn and the last file on the list is already selected/displayed, K-free will loop back to the start of the list and display the first file.

D. Auto refresh text

When the option "AutoRefresh Text ..." is checked, the selected file will always be displayed in the text section of the file list window. When a new file is selected using up/down keys, the text section of the file list window will automatically be refreshed.
No change will be made to the text displayed if a directory is selected.
The green selection is always used to determine the file to display. The blue selection is ignored.

If there is no text section on the file list window, this option is ignored. Text displayed on a pop up window will never be autorefreshed.

The List of Results in the status bar will show that a new file is displayed when the file is autorefreshed if option "Add message to status when AutoRefresh ... " is checked.

The "AutoRefresh Text ..." option can be different for each file list window. It is also included on the Quick Options menu.
The "Add Message ..." Option applies to all file list windows.

Options: Popups - Show Text / Help

A. Size of popup
B. Use of IE for Help

A. Size of popup

If option "Popup Text - Resize ..." is checked on Options/Show Text Popup, then the pop up window will be re-sized every time a new show command is issued.
This option also available from the Edit/Quick Options menu.

If the file list window is maximised and a show command is selected that requires a pop up window then:
If Option "Popup even when maximised ..." is checked on Options/Popups - Show Text ..., the maximised file list window will be changed to fill the screen before the pop up is displayed.
If the option is not checked, the text will be displayed in a maximised window. Esc key can still be used to return to the window where the show command was issued.

The default size for the pop up window can be defined by using "Set Std Size ..." from Options/Popups - Show Text ....

B. Use of IE for Help

K-free will always try to start Internet Explorer to display Help if the option "Use IE to show Help" is checked.
If any error occurs and help cannot be shown using IE, K-free will show help in simple text format on a popup screen. When an attempt is made to start IE it can cause windows problems. To always show help in the popup window uncheck this option.

If there is any problem when attempting to show help in IE, a warning will be displayed with an option to always use popup for help. This warning screen will not be shown if option "No warning when IE fails" is checked.

Options: Misc

A. Pause for Action and File Menu actions
B. Creation of new window

A. Pause for Action and File Menu actions

K-free will pause for all actions on the Action menu if Pause when Action is checked.

This feature can be disabled for any action by checking Do Not Pause on the action definition screen.
It cannot be disabled for Select from associations.

K-free will only pause for Move/Copy/Delete if BOTH the general option to pause AND the option to pause for Move/Copy/Delete are checked.

If the option is checked on Options: Misc, K-free will pause after processing the number of files entered in options and ask whether to continue with other selected files.

This option is available to make it easy to stop an action which is causing a problem on each file when a large number of files are selected.

If Yes is pressed, a further group of n files are processed and this continue-confirmation screen is displayed again.
If No is pressed, all files are processed without further confirmations being required.
Cancel will stop the current action.

B. Creation of new window

Specify size to be used when a new file list window is created.

The layout, formats and directory selection will be copied from the current file list window or the last file list window closed if no file list windows are open.

Check the option "Refresh ... " to read files for the current directory selection when the new window is created.
