1. Select the file or directory.
Only a single file or directory can be changed with this function.
Item renamed will be from the Current Section:
. directory tree - the directory selected.
. file list - the first file or directory selected in blue and marked with *. If no files are selected in blue, the first file selected in green.
. the text section - the file currently displayed.
The Current Section is the part (directory tree, file list or text) which has a white background.
To change the section, press tab or click on the section required.
2. Choose Properties from the File menu and Enter the new properties.
The current values for Read-Only, Hidden, System and Archive are displayed and can be changed here.
Read-Only files are normal files which you want to be able to display but do not want to change.
Many programs will give an error if you try to delete or change a Read-Only, Hidden or System file. Some programs (including K-free) will allow changes but require confirmation or give a warning.
The Archive attribute or property is set sometimes when a file is changed. We recommend that you ignore this property as we believe it to be unreliable.
Hidden and System properties should only be changed by advanced users.
Hidden and system files are not shown in many programs when files are listed (unless a specific option to show them is selected).
Hidden and system files will be listed by K-free when "Show Hidden .. /Show System .." resp. are checked. See Select By File Type screen.
Move and delete functions in K-free will ask for confirmation of action on read-only, hidden and system files unless confirmation is turned off using Options: Copy/Move confirm
In K-free when files are Moved or Copied, all properties of the destination file will be set to the same values as for the source file.
3. New properties will be shown in the results list on the status bar.
K-free will show properties using the first letter of each property.
r - Read-Only
h - Hidden
s - System
a - Archive
The letters listed as the new attributes are those properties which are set (checked).
The same letters are used to display attributes in the file list when File Attributes column is selected.
'Properties' - Program Help end.
