'Refresh' - Program Help start.

Refresh or F5 will make a new file list on the current file list window.

Refresh will also check the directory tree and if changes have been made by another application, the directory tree will be updated. Changes in K-free are always updated on the directory tree on all K-free windows immediately.

After Refresh is pressed it can be interrupted using the Esc key or the Stop button on either the progress box or Status Bar (when available).
Make file list will be interrupted if you press F5 again (e.g. after changing directory selected in the directory tree).

If the file list takes longer than a second or two, a progress box will appear on top of the file list section. This will show the total number of files and directories listed.

File List will be regenerated with new selections of directories/files to list, file types, columns and other options if they have been changed.

When the current section is the directory tree:
For a single directory list the selected directory in the tree will always be listed
For a multi directory list, you will get a message when the selected directory in the tree is not included in the list. The message screen allows a single directory list for that selected directory or to add that directory to the current list.

Otherwise the directory (list) selected (See Select Dirs Files to list) will be listed.

When the file List is made:
- Include Subdirectories (see Select By File Type) will determine whether all subdirectories are listed. For a multi directory/file list this option can also be specified separately for some directories in the list (See Select Dirs Files to list).
- Show Directories (see Select By File Type) will determine whether directories are shown in the file list.
- "Show Hidden ...", "Show System ..." (see Select By File Type) will determine whether all files / directories with attributes (properties) Hidden / System are shown.
- The selected file type (see Select By File Type) should be * for all files. If a file type (list) is specified, only file types that match the selected file type will be included in the file list.
- The selected columns (see Select Columns) will determine which columns in the file list are shown. Columns will always be removed from the current file list immediately when they are removed from the selection on Select Columns screen. Some columns can only be added when the file list is refreshed.
- The current sort order (See Sort By items) will be used to sort the file list after the refresh is complete.

- Option "FileList - File path & name in Lower case" will cause all entries in columns FileName, FilePath and Type to be converted to lower case (small letters).
- Option "FileList - Dirs at top when refresh" will cause all directories listed to be placed at the top of the list.
NB If the file list is sorted, directories may no longer be at the top. If the first sort column is FileName or Type or Size then directories will always be together at the top or bottom of the list.
- Option "Renumber after refresh" will cause the Sequence Number (No.) column to be set to 1,2,3. If no renumber is done, the No. column may not be the same as the order in the list (if the list was sorted or directories were placed at the top).

- After the file list is completed it will usually be sorted if one of the Sort By items is checked on the View menu.
No sort will be done if "Skip sort after refresh ..." is checked on Options: Make File List.
No sort will be done if "No Sort" is checked on the View menu.
- If a refresh is stopped, the file list will not be sorted. If option "Prompt to do sort ..." is checked then a message will allow the user to choose whether to sort or not.

These options can be changed on Options: Make File List but any change will only be actioned when the file list is next refreshed.

To change selections that are used to make the file list see:
Select Dirs Files to list on the Select Menu
Select By File Type on the Select Menu
Select Columns on the Select Menu
Options: Make File List. on Edit Menu
Sort By items on the View Menu.
